Annihilation

Annihilation and its sequel Conquest is a new comic book mini series from marvel which brings back the cosmic characters which were mostly prevalent in the 80s and 70s.It has got an ensemble character list.nova,Adam Warlock,Star Lord,Super skrull,Ronan,Silver surfer,Quasar,Captain Marvel,Drax,Rocket Raccoon etc. These characters were once popular but was lost when cosmic stories became out of fashion in comics. The books consist of four four issue miniseries each focusing on each main character and moves onto the main six issue main series.
The series is really good because each miniseries presents different types of heroes and reasons for their behavior. For etc

Drax--He is like a genetically manipulated ultimate killing machine.Badass to the core(Kind of Riddick like)

Nova--Clearly a Green Lantern ripoff in function(universal police, becomes last of his kind etc)

Star Lord-This guy is the coolest ever.He doesnt have any powers, but he is a guy who is willing to break a few rules to get the job done.(He is like Han Solo done by Garth Ennis)

Quasar---He is in his power wise another GL ripoff(solid light constructs)but he has a Superman like grandeur.

Rocket Raccoon-He is the best character. The team mascot as well as one of toughest characters.well, you think he is cute??It's your funeral. Not mine!!!!!

These are a few of the main characters involved in the overall story.Although what I describe makes it sound like a cliche of space opera stories,it works that is the good thing about it.Moving Onto the bad guys:-
The first series focuses on Nihilus the insecticidal Villain who comes from the negative zone who wants to destroy the ordinary world because basically he is the bad guy...In Conquest an AI called Ultron wants to destroy the universe because he hates organic stuff.
Bit over the top but still great space opera in the tradition of Star Wars etc.But these guys have super powers and are cooler definitely worth your time if you are a geek just like me(you must be one because you wouldn't be reading this otherwise)
The best thing is this being made into an ongoing series called "Guardians of the Galaxy" which will be published in May, 2008, with Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning on writing duties
